Brevort, Michigan

A sleepy village nestled along the shores of Lake Michigan.  Unincorporated, it is mostly tourism based with early 20th century Swedish Emigrants and commercial fishing history.  Located in Moran Townshp, Mackianc County, Michgian.

There is a Swedish Mid-summer Pole and Celebration held at the only church in town and the one that is located downtown.

The small downtown area is right on U.S. 2, Top of the Lake Scenic Byway and features  a restaurant (you can even get a beer there now) , gas station/smoked fish-jerky, and other U.P. delicacies, motel & Lutheran Church…Clearwater Condominiums are just up the street on the bluff and a few other homes dot the U.S. #2 stretch.  Many other homes or cottages are located north towards the Worth Road area as well as a development of home and pristine wooded building sites on the bluff shores of Lake Michigan called Wildwood Lane, (also featuring beautiful waterfront building lots, you can ask us about those too.  This stretches approximately one mile starting behind the Wildwood Pastie shop and exiting out at the Gustafson’s Smoked Fish and Gas stop in the village.   Little Brevort Lake is close by. Great trail systems for snowmobiling, hiking and x-country skiing.  Beaches and plenty of public lands are also big draws.  Just a few miles to the east are the popular “Sand Dunes” swimming and camping area.  Five miles west is the famous “Cut River Bridge” and gorge area on Lake Michigan.

Little Brevort Lake

Overview
Little Brevort Lake is located just 20 minutes west of the Mackinac Bridge on Highway U.S. #2. This beautiful little lake is completely surrounded by state land and no public land is owned here. You won’t find a home here, only raw nature at it’s finest. A small state park campground is located on the west and north side of the lake, the north side being accessed by the Worth Rd. A 3 1/2/ mile hiking trail called the Switchback is accessed by both sides and leads you through a forest of hundreds of varieties of plants and trees, through a sand dune area and connects to Big Brevort Lake. A hearty hike, but one you won’t soon forget. The south side of the lake was abandoned by the State in 2009, so the remnants of a camp-ground and trails still remain. Great place to go for some quiet time,  hiking, x-country skiing, fishing or general playing around.   Some of my greatest childhood & family memories are from fishing, skating, snowmobiling and picnicking on this quiet little lake.

Some of the best places to snowmobile or use ATV’s are in this area.  Direct trail access from U.S. #2 into the groomed trail system.
